Dubstep Infiltrates Movie Trailers

Hollywood Discovers Noises Once Reserved for Household Appliances/Whales

The latest trend in movie trailers is to include this noise that sounds very similar to the types of tones we commonly associate with the Dubstep genre.

Listen to the noise that begins at 1:15 in this Planet of the Apes trailer and you'll hear it:

Or listen to the intro of this trailer:

And to continue with the Transformers/Dubstep, remember that Super Bowl Trailer?

Looking Ahead

In three or four years, basically once the fad is completely played out and totally unoriginal, corporations will begin to catch on...Video game trailers will look like this:

  1. I dont quite understand where the dubstep is in these trailers all I hear are sound effects. There doesnt seem to be any complex beats or anything for that matter in the first 3 trailers but the final 2 are simply songs overlayed with existing trailers to show a projection of what will "allegedly" happen.

  2. Dear Anonymous,

These metallic 'sound effects' in the first 3 trailers are the same wobbles that dubstep producers integrate into their tracks. They might not be using specific songs. That's a given. However they are still using the same basic elements that producers of dubstep manipulate to great effect. Also, in recent months we've seen trailers for the Battleship movie (and I think maybe Prometheus) doing the same thing.

  4. Dubstep has become popular in movie trailers but those examples aren't. Those sound effects have been around a lot longer than dubstep, you can hear them in movies from the 60s and 70s. And I was using them well before I had ever heard of dubstep.
